1. General Visa Information
- On November 17, 2008, the Republic of Korea joined the Visa Waiver Program (VWP). As a result, on reciprocity, citizens of countries in the Visa Waiver Program can visit the Republic of Korea without a visa for duration of up to 90 days or less if the purpose of the trip is for tourism and short-term business. (Extension of stay is not permitted). In order to be allowed visa-free entry, you must have a roundtrip ticket. To determine if your country is a part of the Visa Waiver Program, please see the Visa Exemption information under the Consular Affairs tab at the top of this page.
- If your country is not a part of the Visa Waiver Program and/ or you wish to enter Korea for any purpose other than tourism, please see below to determine what visa you need.
Transit Through Korea
A transit traveler may be granted visa-free entry to the Republic of Korea as long as he/she possesses a confirmed onward flight ticket for departure within 30 days after entering the Republic of Korea, in addition to having no record of criminal offence such as illegal stay in the five countries listed below, and falls under either of the following two categories.
(1) If he/she has a visa or re-entry permit for U.S., Japan, Canada, Australia, or New Zealand (five countries) and is traveling to any of these countries through the Republic of Korea; OR
(2) If he/she is traveling from any one of the five countries mentioned above and his/her final destination is not the Republic of Korea.
*NOTE: This exception does not apply to citizens of Cuba and Macedonia.
Notice for Foreign Born Dual Citizens:
According the Korean Nationality Law Revision on May 4, 2010, Foreign Born dual citizens who are not over the age of 22when the date of May 4. 2010 will have to enter Korea with the Korean Passport after being registered on the Korean Family Census Register.
Upon their entry into Korea, they need to register as residents.
However, Korean visa will be issued to those who are over the age of 22when the date of May 4. 2010, foreign born and not listed on the family register.
General requirements for Visa Application:
All visas will have the following general required documents. Most visas require additional documents in order to be processed. To determine what type of visa you need and what other documents are required, please see the Types of Visas and Required Documents section below.
· A valid passport (original passport, photo copies not accepted)
· Passport size photo (2”x 2” color)
· Fee: $45 for American citizens (Cash or money order only; Pay to the Order: Korean Consulate General) Citizens of other countries must pay a visa processing fee according to their country of origin, please see the Visa Fee section to determine the correct amount
· Non US citizens must also submit: US permanent resident card or valid U.S. visa and I-94 (F-1/2 Visa Holder; I-20, J-1/2 Visa Holder; DS2019)
2. Visa Fees
Visa fees are based on the country of citizenship. Please see the fee schedule below to determine the correct amount based on your length of stay. Please be advised, NOT all countries and visas allow for multiple entry. Please check with the Consulate to inquire whether or not you are eligible for a multiple entry visa.
All fees are payable by cash or money order only. Money orders can be made out to “Korean Consulate”.

3. Submitting Your Visa Application
You may either submit your visa application in-person at our office during normal business hours or you may submit your application via mail.
Submitting your visa application via mail
If you submit your visa application by mail, please use certified mail so that you may track it later.The Consulate is not responsible for any items lost in the mail.

Receiving your Visa
We are NOT responsible for any lost items caused by mailing. We recommend you visit our office in person to pick up your visa to guarantee the you receive it, but you can choose alternative options for your convenience at your own risk.
If you would like your visa returned by mail, you must enclose a postage-paid, self-addressed envelope. We accept either FedEx, UPS or the US Postal Service. Please note: We do not accept FedEx, UPS shipping labels where the account or credit card information has been written in. All return shipping must be pre-paid or we will not ship your package back.
FedEx or UPS Account # holders can use it or a prepaid shipping label.

F-4 Korean Heritage Visa

· Your parent(s) must now be US citizens and must renounce their Korean citizen ship
